And the Rockets Red Glare…

Among other colors of the rainbow…. Last night we took Monkey See and Monkey Do to see the “biggest fireworks show in Sacramento”. We took them up to Cal Expo for their fireworks show. We thought it would be fun for them, and we were right.

We left our house in a hurry, and went to my parents’ house to pick up some cupcakes that Peepaw had baked for us. We figured it’d be a pretty good snack while we were hanging out, watching the fireworks.. We had no idea what was actually in store for us… We lost track of time while at Meemaw and Peepaw’s house, and ended up leaving their house around 915pm. The fireworks were scheduled to start at 930pm. Lovely… We got off the freeway and were stopped almost immediately by traffic. We had wanted to go to the parking lot nearby Daddy’s old job to watch, but they had that road blocked off… We made a U turn, and went back out to the main road. As we pulled into the Chuck E Cheese parking lot, we heard the fireworks start… They were right on time… Luckily we were able to find a parking spot fairly quickly, so we unbuckled the girls and ran for the back of the lot. There were quite a few people there, and probably about a handful of them had brought their own fireworks to set off after the big show. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t exactly legal.. but oh well…

The show only lasted 15 minutes. When I told Daddy that was going to be the length of the show, he laughed it off… He didn’t know I was entirely too serious. See, when we spent our 3 years in Japan… They had their summer festival, which opened at Emerald Beach… The beach at the Churaumi Aquarium. Well, their hanabi exhibition was an hour long… not counting the break they took about the middle to reload everything… Oh My Gosh… It was the best fireworks show ever… but I digress…

Back to Cal Expo.. Yes, 15 minutes.. Rushing out there, getting stuck in traffic, stopping at the first parking lot we could, then rushing back to the car, trying to get out of the parking lot, among several cars with drivers who obviously don’t know or care about traffic laws, and driving home, slowly… all for 15 minutes of fireworks. But it was worth every bit of trouble… We also got 15 minutes of “Oooh, that was pretty.” and “Ooooh I’ve never seen that before.”,  huge smiles, huge hugs, and a “Thank you Mommy and Daddy. That was really cool.” Yup, I know we’d do it all over again…

Hope everyone had as magical of a 4th that we did…
