Fevers Fevers Everywhere, Coughs and Sneezes, Snorts and Wheezes

My poor little Monkey Do has had it rough this week. Tuesday started off as normal day. The girls woke up, we all got ready, and went out to the store. We had a great morning together. We came home at a fairly early time, and Meemaw and Peepaw came over to hang out. We all played around, and watched a movie. It was a great day, until the girls woke up from nap. Monkey Do looked so sleepy, and her cheeks were so pink, her eyes were glossy… She went straight for Meemaw, and climbed up on her lap. I ran and grabbed the thermometer. She was nearly 104°. I was so scared! I’ve never had to deal with a temperature that high! I gave her Children’s Tylenol and hoped that would help. My poor sweetie looked miserable. She didn’t want to eat anything, or drink anything… until I gave her some crushed ice. At least she could stay hydrated. I figured we could just watch her over the evening and if she wasn’t better the next morning, I’d call the doctor. I think we must’ve checked her temp 20 times that night while she slept.

Wednesday morning, I knew I wasn’t going to yoga.. but were we going to the doctor? I got up, and got ready, then went in to wake the girls. I took Monkey Do’s temperature… she was still over 103… She was also now complaining about her throat hurting, and again didn’t want to eat anything. I waited anxiously for 8am, when the office opened, and called for an appointment. Luckily we got her in at 1040. Daddy came home from work to sit with Monkey See, and off Monkey Do and I went to see the doctor. My poor sweetie looked so sad.. Our regular pediatrician was out on Maternity Leave (woohoo for her!!) so we saw another doctor who was really cool. He checked her ears, breathing, heart and tried to check her throat, but she just wouldn’t open her mouth wide enough.. Not being able to see her throat, he decided to just take a throat culture.. even thought he thought she was too young to have strep.. Well, guess what.. she had it… Penicillin.. here we come… YUK!

We got home, and she just wanted to lay around… I let her eat ice, and drink water, and snack on crackers. As long as something was in her tummy I was ok. We just knew we had to ride it out… and pray no one else came down with it…

Thursday, she was a little bit better, but then she had a cough added on. I kept tabs on her temp and made sure she ate healthy food. She was eating more, and definitely drinking more. With the heat wave we’re having, they need to keep hydrated… Seriously… it’s been over 100deg here.. and it’s barely the middle of May for goodness sake…

Friday morning, the fever continued, so I called the advice nurse… She said they wanted to see her again, just to make sure the antibiotic was working ok. Off we went to the doctor’s office at 330pm.. right smack dab in the middle of traffic… I hate driving on the freeway during traffic time… We got there and in around 420pm.. The same doctor checked her out, and told us that the cough and fever were now being caused by a virus… and he thought it was probably something she caught the other day while we were there in the waiting room the first time… Oh lovely.. Soooo my kid is sick, and needs to see a doctor. We get medicine to help with original ailment, but now she brings something completely different home… even though I didn’t let her touch anything, and promptly used my antibacterial spray on her hands when we left… LOVELY!

We got home and guess what!?!? Monkey See is now coughing like crazy and has pink cheeks. Ummm thermometer check please! 102… Oh great.. here we go again… By the evening, they were both very sleepy and hot.. My poor babies!!! We gave them a luke warm bath, and Monkey See got some Tylenol. Monkey Do got her Penicillin and some Tylenol… She wasn’t too happy about having to take so much medicine… but we finally got both of them down… We put them to bed, and hoped for a little bit of down time, but it wasn’t to be… They both woke up coughing up stuff, and congested so bad.. Monkey Do was crying so much because she couldn’t breathe through her nose. We tried to get her to blow her nose, and it just wasn’t happening. I felt so bad for her. Daddy held her for a long time so she’d be able to sleep mostly upright… UGH! I HATE it when they’re this sick! I think they finally fell asleep somewhere around 1130p. Daddy and I were up till nearly 1am…

This morning they woke me up crying at 6am… yes.. 6am… Sleep is so overrated, isn’t it?!?! I crawled out of bed to check on them, and both of them were stuffed up, and ready to get out of their cribs… and yes, they both still had a fever. We couldn’t take them out.. not like this. We’ve been finding some crazy things to do since we’ve all been stuck inside today… Not to mention, it’s over 100 degrees outside again.. and our backyard is pure concrete (thanks landlord)… There’s no way they’re going to play outside… Daddy went to get a hair cut this morning, and stop at the store for some essentials.. Then I tell him about this “Great Find” I found on Craigslist. A super duper train table with all kinds of accessories for only $50. AND the guy was only a few blocks away. So off he goes, to pick it up… now.. after Lysol-ing the heck out of it we’re putting it together :)

At least something good will come of all this… Lots of good fun family time.. and a new train table.. LOL
