Linens & Things ~~Now for a Rant!
So yesterday I posted how cool they were, and now I’m going to tell you how mad I am at them….
So I bought this 2 pc. combo shower caddy thingy for my shower, yesterday… I went to put the tension pole caddy together last night, and was all excited about it. It was too short! The box SAID it would fit up to a 9ft ceiling. It SAID it measured 110 inches tall. It didn’t. It only measured at 99.5 inches tall. Um.. is that false advertising? So I took it all apart, packed it all back up in the box nicely, and proceeded to locate the receipt so I could return it today after the gym. Fun fun fun.. going back to Linens & Things after the girls’ fussing episodes yesterday. UGH. Only today, I got to take them by myself rather than with Daddy.
So I go in there after my wonderful Yoga class this morning. I was centered, relaxed, and all those good things Yoga does for you. I got the girls, one in each hand, while also holding the awkwardly large box the caddys came in, and the keys to the van so I could lock it on my way out. We cross the street after 3 idiots who saw us coming, and saw me struggling decided NOT to stop at a PEDESTRIAN CROSSING, because they were too late for something, and get into the store doors. I then pick the girls up, and place them both into the shopping section of the cart, since no one else in this city besides Costco or Sam’s Club has ever heard of putting 2 seats in a cart, and fumble with the box to keep it on the cart long enough to just get into the store itself.
I finally get to the counter and speak to Linda.. who I later found out is the store manager. I told her how we bought this yesterday, and when I put it together, it ended up being too short. She asked me if i was using it on the shower floor, or for a tub. I told her the shower floor, as I was.. and she told me that was what the problem was. It’s made to use on a tub. UM… NO… The box states it’s meant to fit a 9 foot ceiling and the measurement of the pole SHOULD be 110 inches tall… but it’s not. At full extension, it was only 99.5 inches tall.. Big difference from what is printed, and what is actually there. She tells me there is nothing else that comes in a 2 piece set, and nothing that inexpensive on the shelves. Some guy comes walking back with one that rings up at $59. There is no way that I was going to pay $59 for a corner shelf for my shower, and only that shelf. I knew there HAD to be less expensive ones than that thing. We looked at all of them yesterday! So I got my refund, and wheeled the girls back there. I found one for $15 which was metal covered with that white rubberized plastic stuff (yuk.. mold problem) and $29 for a chromed steel one, $39 for a nickel finish chromed steel, and then the $59 stainless steel shelf. Yeah.. I got the $29 one, and found the matching shower head caddy for $19. They had a sale for buy one get one 50% off, plus I had a 20% off everything in the store coupon. Ended up spending $34 in total, minus the refund I got from the other caddy I returned. Not too bad. I carted the girls out, got everyone and everything in the car, and headed home….
I brought it all in while the girls were eating lunch, and took them upstairs after I got the girls down for a nap. I promptly started putting it together. I was praying this one would be tall enough. I really didn’t feel like dragging the girls back there. Guess what.. it was tall enough, BUT.. yes there’s a BUT.. isn’t there always a BUT? One of the poles is peeling the chrome off!!! Are you kidding me??? Oh, and the shower caddy is missing the “C” ring that is supposed to hold it on the pipe so it doesn’t slide down constantly. UGH! I can’t win! So, I call the store… and this is where I find out Linda (the lady I talked to this morning) is the store manager… and speak to Linda, I told her who I was.. She remembered me.. of course… Anyway… She is letting me come back to the store and just bring in the pole that is peeling, and she’s pulled a “C” ring off of another caddy for me…
I know she’s doing all she can for me.. to make me happy now… but.. I’m still upset at the fact that their box said one thing, and actually was something else… I’ve tried to call their main customer service line, and I called their online customer service, all to no avail. The online people don’t “deal” with in store issues, and the main customer service tells you to deal with the local store. I think my next step is to call their corporate office, but after some things I’ve read on the internet, I’m not so sure that will do any good either. Just Google Linens and Things Corporate Office and you’ll see what I mean. There are so many complaints about the store, and it’s practices.. it actually frightens me to shop there… But then again… I’m sure you’ll find lots of complaints about any store you shop at.
I’ll let you all know what happens when I call corporate!
